George Allen “Pat” Summerall, former American football player and television sportscaster, does ot only once in year but he does it with great pleasure. He will be calling the action at the 74th Cotton Bowl for Fox.
“Just to be involved with the Cotton Bowl is a cherished part of my life,” Summerall said. “It means a lot to me. Preparation for a college game is more difficult than a professional game, because there are so many more players and the familiarity is not the same.”
Summerall spent ten years as a professional football player in the National Football League, mostly as a placekicker. He was a fourth-round draft choice for Detroit Lions in 1952. He had to end that season pre maturely after breaking his arm.
Next season, he was traded to Chicago Cardinals from 1953 to 1957 and the New York Giants from 1958 to 1961. His best professional year was 1959, when Summerall scored 90 points on 30-for-30 (100%) extra-point kicking and 20-for-29 (69%) field goal kicking. (Source: Wikipedia)
